Noob q what ip should show in iplookup, still my dns ip or firewall lan ip?
-
I'm guessing the IPS ip should show in iplookup and not the firewall lan ip, is this correct?
-
@cornerstonefound huh? Do you mean like with a nslookup on your pc beind pfsense?
like so
$ nslookup Default Server: pi.hole Address: 192.168.3.10 > server 192.168.9.253 Default Server: sg4860.local.lan Address: 192.168.9.253
This will show you the default name server your os is using - by default yes pfsense would hand its own IP out to dhcp clients.. See the sg4860.local.lan that is my pfsense.. But I point my clients first to pi-hole I am running.

Hello thanks for response
No John I meant if I go to a iplookup on internet to check my ip, my isp ip shows instead on LAN ip, is that normal?
I know that ipconfig in cmd shows the LAN ips etc indeed.

iplookup on internet to check my ip
like if you go to whats my ip?
https://whatismyipaddress.com/
That would not be possible to show you a rfc1918 address. You can not talk to the internet with a rfc1918.. Do you mean it shows you your pfsense wan IP and not pc..
If you were connected directly before to your isp "modem" and your pc got a public IP from your isp before... Then yes such service wold of shown you your pc IP. But if your behind a nat router, then such a service would show you the IP of the device actually connected to the public IP from your isp..
Please say exactly where your going to check this IP..
Or are you talking about some dynamic dns you setup? Where did you set it up, pfsense?

Yes exactly I go to one of those whatismyip online, then it shows my ISP ip not my LAN IP (I guess it's the Wan ip)
I've hooked up the IPS to the firewall and in the firewall I have the LAN with custom ip and all that that connect to computer.
I was directly connected to isp router before I got the barebone firewall.

@cornerstonefound when your behind a nat router, which is what pfsense does out of the box.
It will get an IP from your isp, this would normally be some public IP.. 1.2.3.4 for example.. Behind pfsense you would have a rfc1918 address 192.168.1.x for example on your pc..
So yes when you go to whats my IP, it would show you the IP your isp gave you.. Not your pc behind the nat router.

Ok -- sorry don't like it, I think its cute.. And btw it's the mascot of bsd, which is what pfsense runs on a flavor "freebsd". So guess your saying pfsense is satanic.. Maybe it will take your soul if you use it?
