LAN client cannot connect
-
Ok so you do see the interfaces as available to assign? And you've assigned them and enabled them in pfSense?
Try running:
ifconfig -vma
Make sure they show as UP and linked at the expected speed.
-
@stephenw10 where i use this? in pc or in shell pfsense?
-
At the command line in pfSense or in the GUI via Diag > Command Prompt.
-
@stephenw10 I tried but I can't see re0 (that would be the wan) and re1 (that would be the lan) but I can see these words: re2,re3, enc0,lo0,pglog0 and pfsync0.
-
@stephenw10 i entered ifconfig (without -vma) i can see re0 and re1.
both say
status: active.
media: ethernet autoselect 1000baseT full-duplex.
flags: 8843<up,broadcast,running,simplex,multicast> metric 0 mtu 1500. -
@Spectrum on the pc in the lan cable connection I read "network not identified - internet not available"
-
Ok so both NICs show as active and linked. Is that the WAN and LAN though? Are they the correct way around?
-
@stephenw10 i had set up that re1-wan and re0-lan. i don't know how to see what you request through the shell.
another question: i have a 2.5G connection pero from what i understand in the pfsense it only receives 1G. the realtek nic though is set up for 2.5G so i don't understand. -
Make it work first. Fix the link speed later.
Is the client on LAN able to pull a DHCP lease?
If you disconnect the LAN cable do you see re0 change to
status: no carrier
? -
@stephenw10 lan dhcp4 and yes when disconnect the lan cable i see status: no carrier
-
Ok great the LAN clients pulls a lease and the port is the one you expect.
What is the WAN connected to? Is that pulling a lease via DHCP? Is it conflicting with the LAN subnet?
-
@stephenw10 good morning, I am currently developing this line : modem (fiber) - pfsense - pc. When I get it set up properly, the sequence would be : modem (fiber) - pfsense - router - switch - pc, nas, etch
the wan is connected to the modem (fiber) to the pfsense.
note: i don't have an ont, in my modem it goes directly to the fiber.
for the other two questions I couldn't answer. using the standard 1gb ethernet connectors worked.
-
Oh, so it's up and working now?
-
@stephenw10 no, on my pc it always gives me the same error and on the pfsense it shows me the same thing as yesterday... i wanted to make her understand that i made a direct line between modem - pfsense - pc but this has problems.
-
Ok, then if the client is getting a DHCP lease from pfSense I assume it can ping pfSense? Connect to the pfSense webgui?
The next thing to check is if pfSense itself is getting a valid IP address on it's WAN.
-
@stephenw10 i tried putting the ip address of pfsense the web gui in the ping host and it states "3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0.0% lost, round -trip xxxx = xxxxxms".
i did that do a nice factory reset, write the codes once to install the nic drivers, after that i tried to do the add by removing re2 - re3 as OPT it worked. apparently lan address was wrong since it gave me 192.168.1.70 instead of the base ip, i think the error or obstacle was re2 and re3. now it finds me immediately connected to the pc. probably this (technical) question you had asked before and i didn't understand it. i hope i solved it and once i turn off the pfsense to connect it to the modem it won't be bratty anymore. thank you very much now i continue with the installation via web gui.
-
@stephenw10 I connect to the web gui even though my antivirus is blocking me all the time. however, the other websites don't load for me at all (examples: google, youtube, deepl).
even now to answer her I had to unplug the lan cable and connect in wifi. however on the pc when I put the lan cable it comes out "network connected" -
What error do you see when you try to connect to some external site?
Can you ping by IP address, for example, 8.8.8.8?
What does the pfSense WAN address show as?
-
@stephenw10 the wan network gives me 192.168.1.xxx
i disconnected the cable to the pc (not the pfsense) and then reconnected it hours later and it won't connect me anymore.
wan and lan in the pfsense are the same as before.
in the "ifconfig" shell it tells me that wan and lan are active. re1 states me as wan while re0 gives no description. -
@Spectrum wan v4/dhcp4 : 192.168.1.XxX - v6/dhcp6 : XXXX:xxx:XXXX:xxxx:XXXX:xxxx/XXXX/XX
