    WAN link stops working no errors

      So I am not a networking expert by any means. That being said I am having problems with my WAN link. It will run throughout the day then randomly every few hours it dies. And I cant do a traceroute cant ping the gateway nothing.

      The only way i can get it back up is to either reboot my Netgate 1100. or disable the wan interface save it and the re-enable it and save it. then it starts working fine. So the question is what should I be looking at because I am not seeing any errors it just stops working.

      I am running the following version:
      23.05.1-RELEASE (arm64)
      built on Wed Jun 28 03:57:42 UTC 2023
      FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT

        @Braunyar The pfSense log should show the connection drop.

        Change patch cable? Put a switch between the two routers?

        Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
        When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          Yup, first check the logs in Status > System Logs. Looks at the system general and gateway logs covering the outtage.

            OK Following @SteveITS and @Stephenw10 advice I cleared the logs then waited for a failure.
            No I turned of gateway monitoring because I thought that was the issue. So I dont have any gateway logs to show.
            but here is what is happening in the general logs.
            I dont see anything in the logs really saying something went down. I went down right around 7:15 or so PM. I then logged onto my desktop to see the logs and all i see is me logging into the netgate.

            Is tehre more logging somewhere i can turn on or up? Cause this didnt show anything but it wasnt working till i stopped and started the wan interface.

              Nope not in the system log. The fact it doesn't show anything there is interesting though.

              You can also check the routing and dhcp logs for any events at that time.

              I would re-enable gateway monitoring and set it to something external like 8.8.8.8.
