      Hi

      After attempting to upgrade to 23.09, I had a failed boot and noticed issues consistent with a failing drive on a pfSense+ install. I managed to recover it to the point where it was booting up ok, but the GUI was inaccessible along with various other issues. Time constraints forced me to reinstall over the top of old installation. (I have a new appliance going in this evening.) I also managed to install an, older, manual backup.

      I have the old installation's Netgate Device ID .(it seems it was also recognised during the reinstallation because it is still the same). I also have the ACB encryption password from the old install. However, not being able to access the GUI meant that I was unable to retrieve the ACB Device Key - I thought I had it recorded, but cannot find it ;-/

      I need access to a more recent configuration (say, 31st October 2023). I thought I had recovered enough after the manual restore to get access to this backup, as I can see the list fully populated that includes it. However, any attempts at downloading the file are met with a "Could not decrypt config.xml" message.

      Do I have any options, given that I have the Netgate Device ID & ACB Encryption Password? The fact that, after manual restore, the ACB Device Key was pre-populated and the backups visible in the list led me to believe that as long as I had the ACB enc p/w all would be good. Evidently not? FWIW, the old install was running plus 23.06 (or 07/08) and the new is running CE 2.6.0 currently. The (older) backup is from the device when it was on 22.8

      Many thanks, and fingers crossed.

      Dave

        Send me the NDI in chat and I'll see what's listed. Did you have a hint set? Send that too if so.

            @stephenw10

            Hi Steve, Thank you, you're a star. I simply used the device id & password on a spare appliance and was able to obtain the unencrypted config. Evidently, there is os corruption on the flaky box with the suspect msata drive. Thanks again ;-)
