Re: KEA DHCP - lacking features

The older, now deprecated, ISC DHCP server supports ‘Prefix Delegation Pool.’ However, this setting disappears when switching to Kea as the DHCP backend.

I use a downstream firewall/router (Fortigate) which, as a DHCP client, requests an IPv6 prefix using the ‘prefix hint’ (e.g., /60) from Pfsense. I understand this feature can be added, it’s just a matter of time or resources for the Pfsense development team.

How do I formally put a request in so they can prioritize features and balance more popular ones vs others? Also, not interested in paid support I’ll happily wait.

That is a known limitation of Kea and it's mentioned specifically in the release notes:

        https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/23-09.html#kea-dhcp-server-feature-preview-now-available

We hope to have it feature complete for the 24.03 release but it's still under active development.

For now if you need any of the missing features, continue to use the ISC daemon.
