TAC-lite; Some questions and concerns
-
Let me start saying that I do understand that Netgate tries to stop free pfSense versions for commercial usage and/or benefits. I also understand that Netgate does need money to finance development and support. That does not take away that I have some questions and concerns.
I would like to mention/raise the following points:
-
As home user I am running pfSense on a home build PC. That is not a static device. If the PC fails or I would like to upgrade parts of the PC. That is how things at least in my case work. So my first statement is that I do not want to lose my license if I changed my pfSense hardware for what ever reason.

If you pay extra for the plus version, it sounds reasonable if there is a description describing what the actual and intended future differences are between the payed and the free version
-
If you choose for the free version, you need to be sure that it will be supported for the next few years
-
I assume upgrading to the payed version, without reconfiguration, will stay possible in the future
-
If you choose for the paid version, you need to be sure that the license fee will stay in the same range
-
Assume you choose for the paid version now, could it be guaranteed that you can downgrade to the free version later on without reconfiguration (of course loosing the additional functionality)
-
Last point to mention is that for home and/or test usage the actual TAC-lite price is again IMHO steep. Also note that I do not need "Zero-to-Ping"
