@troysjanda

Not trying to be that me too guy, but i'm also seeing this, with a twist though.
if i go to the update section from the system menu , it runs the update check and tells me i am up to date there.
and back on the dashboard the update available to 23.09 disappear , until the next time it refreshes and checks for updates again.

Hmm, it's probably the new upgrade check option:

[2.7.1-RELEASE][admin@cedev-6.stevew.lan]/root: pfSense-upgrade -c
Messages:
Your device is eligible for pfSense Plus®! Select Upgrade to upgrade.
>>> Updating repositories metadata... done.
Your system is up to date
[2.7.1-RELEASE][admin@cedev-6.stevew.lan]/root: pfSense-upgrade -C

23.09 version of pfSense is available

Some further tweaking required there I think.

I recently downgraded from 23.0.x to 2.7 and am seeing this as well but if I go to the system>update page and then back to status>dashboard it then shows correctly.

Yes, it's expected if the NDI is eligible for Plus upgrade.

@stephenw10 But we're not, are we? That was sort of the point of everyone having to do downgrades to 2.7.x from Plus.

Anything that was valid still is valid unless it has expired. So most instances still will be.

It should only show the possibility under System > Update > messages "your device is eligible for pfSense Plus."

The status > dashboard > version should always show you the release and if you are up to date on your current base system.

Just what I've noticed over the years,
Jim

Yes, that is what previously would have been seen. In earlier versions it was impossible to check for updates except in the selected branch. In 2.7.1 and 23.09 pfSense can check for updates in any configured repo which means we can see and display upgrades without having to force a default branch change. This will eliminate a lot of upgrade issues which is great. But a side effect is this situation which we are looking at how best to address.

@stephenw10 I see a long reddit post about this and even was pm'd that they saw the update and accidentally pressed the update cog and did not want to.

Think that this need to be addressed sooner rather than later as this is also my scare that ill accidentally do this as well.

If you click the upgrade button on the dashboard it will take you to the upgrade page where it will show that you're on 2.7.1 and 2.7.1 is the latest version. You can only upgrade to 23.09 there by selecting it from the dropdown menu and then pressing upgrade. So there is little danger of accidentally upgrading to 23.09.

With the recent 2.7.2 update and this issue (and yes I do regard it as an issue) showing the update available to 23.09.1 in the dashboard priority over the actual version relevant to what I'm using , CE.

This clearly isn't on and could lead to important updates at the worst case being missed completely or delayed until seeing update through alternative means , via blog post , non-affiliated sites etc....

Please fix this so any updates to CE take priority on the dashboard and just for a minute stop trying to flog the up sell to plus.
