I have multiple Netgate pfSense devices installed that need updating. There are enough that manually updating each one is possible, but extremely inefficient. Is there a way (official or not) to batch upgrade devices. e.g. a script to update devices via ssh consoleÉ

@badbobby If you can get past the menu there's a shell command:
        https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/upgrade-guide-update.html#upgrading-using-the-console

I've heard whispers for quite a while about centralized management but AFAIK it doesn't exist yet, at least from Netgate.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Yes, our offering there is still in development. There are some third party tools for doing this but we don't endorse any of them.
