Netgate 6100 setup from Non Netgate hardware

Hello,
I just bought (yesterday), the Netgate 6100. I am excited to have actual Netgate Hardware! I was wondering if I could set that up "offline" before connecting to the internet? Reason is I wanted to setup my DHCP static mappings before I connect to anything on my network.
I already have pfSense plus setup but it is not Netgate hardware. If I can't can I actually run a backup from the non Netgate system and restore it to the 6100 to get the same setup?

@Net-_Setup You can restore sure, to the same or later version.
The restore will try to install missing packages and fail if it has no WAN. Then you can install them later.
Another option is to connect only the 6100 and a laptop, restore, then plug in your network.
Assuming the 6100 has different NICs it will prompt to assign interfaces during the restore when you upload the file.

It will be better to have it on-line when restoring a config if you can because it will try to reinstall all packages. If it's not on-line when you do that it has to time-out trying to install each package and that can take a while.

I can connect it online. I was trying to avoid having all the devices try to get their IP's without any assignments in pfSense. But I can do that if that makes better sense.

@Net-_Setup That’s why I suggested connecting just one laptop to the 6100 to do the restore:). Then plug in it to your switch. The restore should take just a few minutes.

Oh...I see what you are saying. I must have had one of those moments....brain not tracking. LOL. I get it now. Yeah that would work.

It doesn't necessarily have to be in the final location just have some upstream connectivity when it comes back up after rebooting for the config import. So depending on what the WAN connection is you might connect it behind some other router temporarily for example. It usually can't be the existing pfSense install though because that would create a subnet conflict.

Yes true, if it’s a DHCP WAN I’ve restored in our lab or at home or direct on the ISP router. Can’t with a static WAN though.
