Install an older pfSense package with "pkg add" and snort
-
Hello fellow redmine community members is there a way to install snort 4.1.6_12 and avoid 4.1.6_13 because of coredump issues? Or even reinstall 4.16_11
This should be able to be done with "pkg add"
Has anyone attempted this?
I want to do a clean firmware install however if it fails I want to go back to the older 23.05.01 the issue is I need to still be able to install the working Snort version.
Has anyone attempted to manually install a specific version before for the repo your running? Snort 4.16_13 has known issues that were resolved in pfSense 23.09 and 23.09.01.
To run the firmware I want to have an ability to go back to the version of Snort that works for me and not bug Bill meeks I just want to be able to make it work. The version I am using is stable for me.

No, you can't do that. The
pkg
utility will always grab the most recent version of a package for the current pfSense system version. The only way to do what you want is to rollback your pfSense to whatever version was distributed wih the 4.1.6_11 version of Snort.Your problem is the ARM chipset inside your SG-2100. I suspect the
libpfctl
library on your box is not the newest version, and that's likely due to the ARM kernel not being compatible. I guess perhaps that was 23.05 or maybe even 23.01.Take my advice and ditch the ARM hardware and get you something with an Intel CPU in it. Your life will be much easier.

@bmeeks what's funny is the .11 version works perfectly for me on 23.05.01. I always thought it was my custom AppID stuff until you told me the real reason. I would love a new Netgate appliance that could utilize inline mode and get .SO rules. My wife won't let me until this one dies. I also can't get my 2100 to update to 23.09. But I secretly like ARM too
