Weird random network dropping problems
-
We had a power outage on Saturday, ever since we came back up, we have had some weird random network issues.
Since the power has come back, about every 10 to 30 minutes we will loose network external connection for about 2 minutes then it comes back.
I believe we are loosing the connection within pfsense. IF so, how would I test for it to find the root cause?
Here is why I believe we are loosing connection inside pfsense:
I am running several VMs within a server, multiple services, web apps, email server, phone system, etc.
Several VMs have their own external IP, several run thru a management console with its own external IP.We have a remote system that pings each VM service. When we have a loss it is only one, or a few random VMs that loose connection. Very rarely do all VMs loose network connection at the same time.
sometimes we will loose network on a VM behind the management, but other VMs behind management are fine.
When an event happens when the VM looses network connection, , , within the VM we can ping the gateway (192.168.1.1) fine, but not external (www.google.com)
Obviously we do not loose the lan connection. This never happened before the power outage.
Appreciate any ideas here.ping checks every 30 seconds

What do the system logs show when it loses connectivity?

@stephenw10
Thank You for replying.
I have searched the logs, I could not find anything, it seemed as if everything was normal.I think I just solved the problem, even tho it does not make any sense whatsoever.
I had one switch split for two LAN - going to 2 different pfsense - 2 different ISPs (I have two Watchgaurd 400 with pfsense installed). I moved the LAN to a single switch and there have been no longer any drops. I would have bet a large amount of $$$ that would not have anything to do with the problem, but I changed that and now it works. (maybe there was some confusion in pfsense with the split switch? does not make any sense, but going on 2 hours with no drops)

Yeah that does sound like the switch wasn't as separated as you thought.
