Not receiving WAN IP when connecting to my SHAW modem in bridge mode, thus not able to connect to internet
-
I have a Shaw Modem that is 'bridge mode' enabled and is connected to my pfsense router (hosted on a Protectli device) by Ethernet on my pfsense WAN port, but I cannot get an IP address to show up on my WAN in pfsense.
What I see:
- In overview -> Interface -> WAN, I see a green arrow but a 'n/a' where an IP should be, and thus cannot access the internet.
Things I've tried
- Ensure that 'DHCP' is selected in Interfaces -> WAN
- Copied the 'mac' address of my shaw router into the 'WAN' interface mac address
- Disabled all packet filtering
- Unchecked the last two options under Interfaces -> WAN -> last two options
- Plugged the ethernet wires into different ports (when I did, the green arrow became a 'red x' so I'm pretty sure it's connected to the right WAN interface on my router)
- Asked Shaw to give a new IP address
- Restarted both Shaw modem and router multiple times...
Nothing seems to work, I'm not getting an WAN IP and I've searched around in other forums following their guide nothing seems to work. Anyone got any other suggestions I can try?
Thanks

@KingTChoka Without more info I'm only guessing but some modem/router combos will only allow one port to be active in bridge mode. Does the modem have multiple ports? Try another if so.
Did you try to plug a pc directly into the modem when bridged? Does it get an IP?

"Without more info" - What more info could I provide?
"Does the modem have multiple ports?" - Yup, it has 4, and I've tried plugging the ethernet cable in 2/4, but I guess I can try the other 2.
"Did you try to plug a pc directly into the modem when bridged? Does it get an IP?" - Haven't tried that yet but I will soon. Am I suppose to expect an IP? Why would a PC plugged directly into a bridged modem expect an IP?

@KingTChoka
Are you sure that you get an IP from a DHCP server, or is it a PPPoE connection?
Check the modems settings, as it worked in router mode. Then check the logs, either DHCP or PPPoE to see, what's going on or run a packets capture on the WAN.

Is this cable internet, fiber, other?
What model is the modem?
As said already, DHCP, PPPoE, other? If cable, you'll have to reboot the modem after changing the directly connected device as they 'record' the mac of that directly connected device.
Usually if bridged, they may only work on port 1.
Alternatively, when bridging, they sometimes need to to enter the MAC of the device you want to receive the IP. Was there a field asking for that when you put it in bridge mode? Why wouldn't a PC connected get an IP? Whatever you connect to the modem, when bridged, will get the public IP.
