Sophos XG230 Rev2 Netgate Device ID
-
Good afternoon,
I have a Sophos XG230 Rev2 unit that is running pfsense at present nicely. It has a plus license option unit 2024-07-16, if I add a Flex module to it to add 10Gb SFP+ networking option, does the Device ID change?
I'm still on the fence to replace my 125 Rev 3 unit with it as that has QAT support in the processor, where as the XG230 Rev 2 is a skylake based CPU.

@mikey_s My understanding is yes it would, since it's based on MAC addresses.
Someone from Netgate may be able to clarify the current policy on moving a Plus license to "new hardware"...at one point I think I read that could be done once?

@SteveITS Ok many thanks. The Flex module is of interest, but it's a removable slot. Reason of interest is that it'll add 10Gb SFP+ connectivity, but it does crank the power consumption from 30w to circa 45-50w. So equally may remove the card.
It's a nice 1U firewall, made by Caswell if I recall, but not as efficient as the Atom based 135 Rev 3, which has an Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C3508. I like both units, but XG135 has QAT.
I could put the XG230 Rev 2 back to CE and leave it at that and not have the extra cypto options. I'm using IPSEC, Wireguard and OpenVPN for a handlful of clients/connections.
XG 230 uses a Intel Pentium G4400 and I may change it to a i5-6500T

Yup the 'flex modules' are just PCIe NICs using a different for factor. It will change the NDI.

Indeed they are. Will decide which Sophos appliance I’m sticking with.
Seen a 2nd hand Netgate 7100 that I am keeping my eye on.
