I'm using an ALIX 2D3 and I'd like to use a few packages not available in the embedded install.

Can I install pfSense non-embedded (aka regular install) to a CompactFlash micro-drive and have it function like normal?  Is there anything bad about doing this?

        This might help you:

No downside i know of (besides the limited ressources of the ALIX).

We do what we must, because we can.

Thanks for the help and the wiki article is perfect.

By the way, the ALIX is just as capable as almost any other 500 MHz machine, right?

I thought pfSense (and m0n0wall) were basically meant for old 233 Mhz (or similar) machines?
