      I upgraded pfsense from 23.05.1 to 23.09.1 and noticed that the firewall didn't boot up properly (no IP addresses allocated for network clients).

      I tried to factory reset the unit using the reset button, with no luck.

      After a while I figured out how to connect to it using the USB console. Here there are a bunch of errors like

      Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function gettext() in /etc/inc/certs.inc:48
      Stack trace:
      #0 /etc/inc/functions.inc(34): require_once()
      #1 /etc/inc/notices.inc(26): require_once('/etc/inc/functi...')
      assword:Login timed out after 300 seconds/etc/inc/notice...')
      #3 {main}
      FreeBSD/amd64 (Amnesiac) (ttyu0)n line 48
      /etc/rc: WARNING: $scponlyc_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
      login: g cron.
      cron: can't open or create /var/run/cron.pid: No such file or directory
      /etc/rc: WARNING: failed to start cron
      FreeBSD/amd64 (Amnesiac) (ttyu0)

      And when I try to log in I get this:

      login: admin
      Password:
      2023-12-30T02:39:42.803670+01:00 - login 1025 - - login on ttyu0 as admin
      2023-12-30T02:39:42.803770+01:00 - login 1025 - - ROOT LOGIN (admin) ON ttyu0
      login: /etc/rc.initial: No such file or directory

      FreeBSD/amd64 (Amnesiac) (ttyu0)

      Any idea what I can do? I have a backup config file. I just want to reset or restore the unit somehow.

      Best regards Christian

        @christianhg Quickest way is a reinstall which is easier than it seems at first.
        https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-5100/reinstall-pfsense.html

        Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
        When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          @SteveITS Thank you. I ended up doing this using an image provided to me from Netgate Support ๐Ÿ™
