      Hello,

After I updated from 2.7.0 to 2.7.2, auto-update checker is offering me an update to 23.09.1 regardless that I am in the 2.7 update branch. I have registered to PfSense+ in summer if I recall but have not switch versions.

I tried to select again the 2.7 branch manually from the settings and after that it checked the update correftly once. After that it again offered 23.09.1.

Will the auto-updater check correctly in the future to 2.7.3 and/or 2.8 or is there something to fix to the auto-update checker?

Also can I remove the registration to PfSense+ somehow as it isn't free anymore to home+lab?

More information will be provided as needed.

@RubeGMachine If I were you, I would update to the pfSense+ until the point you will be charged.

        pfSense+ 23.09 Lenovo Thinkcentre M93P SFF Quadcore i7 dual Raid-ZFS 128GB-SSD 32GB-RAM PCI-Intel i350-t4 NIC, -Intel QAT 8950.
        pfSense+ 23.09 VM-Proxmox, Dell Precision Xeon-W2155 Nvme 500GB-ZFS 128GB-RAM PCIe-Intel i350-t4, Intel QAT-8950, P-cloud.

@NollipfSense The challenge there is one may not be able to move directly to CE because of config versions, because Plus updates faster.

OP can probably ask Netgate to remove Plus from their NDI.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Couldn't he also install the CE version and restore configuration from backup? That's what I would do...

@NollipfSense Yes but the Plus config file isn't always compatible with the current CE version because Plus comes out 3x per year.

              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/restore.html#backup-compatibility

So one could not go directly from 23.01 to 2.6, but one can currently go from 23.09.1 to 2.7.2. Assuming 24.03 comes out before 2.8 I'd expect 24.03 will have a later version again.

I have to think about this. I have been happy with CE and I value continuity ad simplicity in firewall issues... but it sounds that it could get too complicated in the future if I update now. And there is no knowledge when the free period will end... next summer, next christmas?

                What is a NDI?

@stephenw10 Could this be accomplished? Would it correct the issue?

@RubeGMachine Netgate Device ID. A calculated ID number for that router.

Yes this is a known issue. It's really only cosmetic but can be confusing. https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/15019

Yes if you really need to I can remove your NDI so it stops seeing Plus as an available upgrade.
