      2.7.2 says ISC DHCP has been deprecated and suggests us switch to KEA before the next upgrade.
      If I want to switch to it now, any side effect I should be prepared to handle, or it would be quite a smooth transition....thanks.

        Do a quick search for kea here on the forum and your question will answered -- Kea is not yet ready for prime time in the opinion of most using it. At the very least it lacks a number of features in its current implementation that are available in ISC DHCP. Whether or not these missing features are showstoppers for you is up to you to determine.

        ISC DHCP is not disappearing tomorrow. I would hold off on switching. I have NOT made the switch on my own firewall, and don't plan to until really forced by the removal of ISC DHCP.

          The biggest drawback currently is that dhcp leases are not resolvable by hostname currently.

          You can easily switch back if you need to.

            @bthoven list: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-7-1.html#kea-dhcp-server-feature-preview-now-available

            Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
            When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

              Thanks all. From all the feedbacks, I think it would be a good idea to hold till KEA implemented on pfSense supports all the functions it's supposed to have.

                Not necessarily ?!
                Using Kea, or ISC DHCP, if pfSense is set up correctly ( ©™ ) resolving host names works just fine, nothing changed for me
                I'm using Kea for the last several months now, and :

                  The dhcpeases script doesn't update the table from Kea. If you switched from ISC existing entries will still be resolved until you reboot but that list is no longer updated.

                    until you reboot

                    Rebooting pfSense ? I didn't find a reason to do so, so I don't do that 😊
                    But frankly, yes, if it I have to reboot, I'll activate DHCP ISC for a moment, then go back to Kea, and I'm good.
                    My LANs DHCP leases are all "MAC static".
