Block of IPs but ISPs uses PPPoE
-
Hi folks,
Recently upgraded to 5 static IPs which are on a /29 subnet to install Ha firewalls, however I’m currently using PPPoE here in the UK with British Telecoms, does anyone know if I can simply disable PPPoE & Set WAN to Static ?

You should better ask your ISP.
But if your ISP uses PPPoE, as you said, I assume, that the additional /29 block is routed to the PPPoE IP, which would be the primary then. In this case you can't remove the PPPoE for plausible reason. -
@viragomann Yeah majority of ISPs here in the UK and Ireland uses PPPoE but the question is, can you use the PPPoE on both boxes is the question.

@VioletDragon
Yes, you can do this, but there are some drawbacks. The PPPoE IP and hence also the /29 block would be occupied by the master. Hence the backup node has no public IP. So you can only route its upstream traffic (e.g. for updates) over the master.
On a failover, the secondary might have to reconnect the PPPoE, so the states will be flushed and the clients will have to reconnect. This means, the communication will be interrupted for a view seconds. -
@viragomann kinda defeats the objective of Ha then.
Just got off the Phone to BT Business. First response was (We don’t support 3rd Party Routers).
But yeah they only support PPPoE so being on a /29 seems pointless to me.

@viragomann Just a update.
They called me back. There recommendation is to have a PPPoE server that passes through the IPs.
