I have two 6100s (and a bunch of others). All of them except one 6100 update automatically to the latest firmware. I don’t see any settings to enable or disable updates. I can update manually no problem.

        What error are you seeing?

What version are you updating from?

Try running at the command line: pkg-static -d update
        See what error it shows.

          update automatically

Just noting, pfSense isn't supposed to self-upgrade. Someone should be going through the upgrade process on each. Are you saying they upgraded on their own? I've seen occasional claims of that on this forum, but over many years and many clients have not experienced that.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Some of them do for sure. I'll look for some hard evidence. Tx

I can confirm that should not happen. The only way it could is if a custom script has been added to do so. There are some examples here on the forum but we do not recommend that.
