Problem booting OS
-
No that doesn't specifically look like a drive failure. Is nothing shown after that? I'd expect a mountroot error.
-
@stephenw10 unfortunate it just stalls there. I let it go for an hour with no changes/progress. Im planning on getting a new ssd to try swap and fresh install.
-
You might try booting the installer and seeing if that can see the drive.
-
@stephenw10 so the system can see the usb drive. But it almost gets stuck and the beginning of the kernel load. Ill try to get a snippet today with example. I also tried installing a 2.6 version to start from very beginning.
-
I would just try 2.7.2 at this point.
-
@stephenw10 so i was on 2.7 but i was worried potentially incompatibility. So i went to what the server started with in hopes it would fix.
-
Try reconnecting of the NICs when it's stuck at that screen. If it still shows the link event it's probably a console problem.
-
Did fresh firmware fix it?
-
@JonathanLee I just tried to install 7.2 and got stuck on the below. I'll need to pull the server out the rack to try reconnecting the NICs. This is off a Check Point T80 or T100 bought second hand so unsure if the front panel NICs are part of the board. If it is par tof the board pulling the CMOS battery should complete the reset correct?

@fijoitsimaru does this equipment have a ipmi card too? I think the unknown NIC is a IPMI
-
Is that booting the installer or after it installed booting the result?
That's odd, it's not even trying to mount root there.
-
@stephenw10 the last one is with installer plugged in. I think its trying to boot into but im not 100 percent sure. Also unsure if it had IPMI done see a port on the case. Need to unrack and open. See if im missing something.
-
Ah, so it never got to the install menu? But you're not sure it actually booted from USB?
Was that the memstick-serial image?
-
@stephenw10 Yes initial images were memstick serial. Just testing I tried putting the VGA on and it freezes at another location as I would expect it being wrong image needed.

Yup that's where I'd expect it to stop booting the VGA image when connected to the serial console.

@stephenw10 So I found something new...

Hmm, was that just one time? After a warm reboot?
Has something been disabled in the BIOS?
-
@stephenw10 apologies didn't see update on this. No I am unsure if bios was modified. So I bought this as part of a set from reseller on Ebay. its a checkpoint t80? when i got it it already had pfsense install restored so it was just configuring and completing the install. Current update is getting a new SSD to swap and see if that will correct my issue. New ssd should be here this week. Next steps is new bare metal server running pfsesne or promox with pfsesne. Apologies again for the delay and thanks for the assist.
