You might want to consider those mini PCs that are popular these days. They often come with multiple Ethernet ports. I believe there's another recent thread here, discussing hardware. The one I have, as described in sig, is little more than coasting. Even at over 900 Mb down, from speedtest, is only at about 10% CPU load.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel 1 Gb Ethernet ports.
        UniFi AC-Lite access point

        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

@uber949 That's not a high bar, to be honest...I'd say a Netgate 2100 would be fine.

re: porn blocking, there are a couple of approaches. Using pfBlocker to download one of the "adult" lists is a very large download...as in over 1 GB of disk space to extract. I'd recommend the 2100 Max to get an SSD if you were going to do a lot of disk writing.

Instead I would consider using DNS forwarding and one of the adult filters such as 1.1.1.3.

To upgrade, select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings. When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, CPU, and/or disk speed.
Only install packages for your version of pfSense.

So the actual PPPoE link is off-loaded? Or does pfSense need to terminate the PPPoE session?

Is there a power or noise requirement?

Hmm, so it's FTTP? Unless it's maybe the high speed end of g.fast?
