Pfsense setup

Hello friend,
I am setting up pfsense in an office.
But the setup configuration is not typical. I did alot of research online through forums and youtube.
Using pfsense on a PC with only 1 ETH port.
How to set up. I was instructed to set up on VLAN for LAN and use parent adapter(not VLAN) as WAN, but am having trouble getting assigned IP.
THe issue likely lies in.
The PC with pfsense is plugged into an ETH outlet in the router. Because it does not have two ETH ports, I cannot use it as a pass through firewall between the ISP service and my router.
Has pfsense updated the software to make it run so that devices with one eth port can act as a firewall, as a device on the router with a private ip address of the same subnet.
How would the usual set up look like, pc with two NIC, and or pfsense hardware device.
I would assume the WAN connection going into the firewall comes directly from the ISP, and the LAN goes to the ROUTER or SWITCH.

Is you goal a router on a stick?
If so, remove the VLAN again. Such setup only has one interface.However, for the setup you described you should better put pfSense into a transit network, segregated from your LAN.
And in all cases this requires some special routing and possibly natting. -
You don't mention a switch configured to separate the VLAN. That's what I'd expect to find.
