Suitable PCI etc NIC for Dell 3010 and Pfsense.
-
Hi All
I'm only posting as I have bought two NIC's recently and neither work with Pfsense on my Dell 3010 unit. Annoyingly if I use a cheap old USB / Ethernet dongle Pfsense works fine but ideally I'll want a gigabit NIC, preferable with a minimum or two ethernet ports. So can you suggest a NIC that will work with Pfsense and the Dell 3010 please :-)
Thank you in advance for any suggestions posted.
Kind regards
:-)

@TrebzUK According the Netgate, Intel NIC is guaranteed to work...https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/hardware/index.html

@TrebzUK
Basically you can use any hardware, which is supported by FreeBSD 14. Refer FreeBSD 14.0 Hardware Notes.
Intel gigabit NICs are known to work well with pfSense commonly. -
Would this one be suitable do you think?

Yes however, why not get at least the dual port ones...that way you know you have a good WAN and LAN?

Ok I'll be honest hehe. I don't really know which one to buy :-( Can you or someone else post a link to a suitable card on Amazon please? Many of the two port ones look like they are not truly Intel so I need a little help. I'm working on a low budget so something around the £20 would be ideal.
Thanks in advance for any links posted :0)

The ones you'll be looking for is the 82576...you can find used ones on say eBay within your price range, see [here](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=intel+dual+port+82576+nic&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1&_odkw=intel+dual+port+82574+nic&_osacat=0[link text](link url)link url)

So this one from Amazon UK would be suitable?

Or for even less money:

And we all know that red anodised means faster:

Which of those would be the better choice do you think?
-
@TrebzUK I would go with the first as the second one is not available and the third is two pounds more...just bare in mind the first is not an Intel brand...they're just using the Intel chip but it should function the same as an Intel branded one.

Excellent advise my friend and very well appreciated. I bought the first one. Fingers crossed it will work Ok :-) I checked the feedback earlier today and other buyers have reported that it works Ok with Pfsense.
Again, many many thanks.
