Are there any default packages?
-
I haven't had to do much on my firewall for a while and I was looking over packages. Are there any packages that are installed by default?
I have:
- aws-wizard
- ipsec-profile-wizard
- Tailscale
Are these required for anything other than OpenVPN and ipsec? Or are they packages I can delete without a problem if the only kind of VPN I'm using is Tailscale?

Those first two packages are installed by default with pfSense Plus, but not with Community Edition (CE). There would be no harm in removing them if you are not using them, but they really are not doing anything other than perhaps consuming a few kilobytes of disk space.
I would be inclined to just leave them there as they are inactive until you actually configure their settings.

I would normally agree, but I have an odd issue. About a year ago I experimented with a few different VPN packages to see what would work best for me. The computer I used them on was wiped and reformatted, but a new one, with the same IP address on my LAN, has a few odd networking issues that may or may not be related to anything on my firewall. (Since it's one of two Macs with identical network settings, other than names and IP addresses, I suspect it's due to some other setting on that Mac, but if I were sure it were a firewall/DNS/DHCP issue, I'd have asked here already.)
I'm trying to eliminate as many variables as I can to narrow things down.

It won't hurt anything to remove those packages if you desire for troubleshooting. If you don't use them, then you won't create any new problem by removing them.
I was just saying that in the normal case (that is, when not trying to eliminate possible problems), leaving them installed should be fine.

Got it. Thank you!
