When I was running a full install on HD, I had tweaked /boot/loader.conf to set kern.ipc.nmbclusters=0 line commented out.  Is there a recommended way to do this on the nanobsd platform?

You can still do this, but you need to first set the filesystem to be read-write, like so from a shell prompt:

        /etc/rc.conf_mount_rw
        <make your="" changes="">/etc/rc.conf_mount_ro

You will have to repeat that change after each upgrade, however.</make>

This won't work though - /boot/loader.conf is not in the /cf filesystem, and that is what gets tweaked by that shell script…

No, that is not correct. The script will mount all partitions r/w, not just /cf.

Hmmm, that what I thought, but it didn't work.  I just now tried again, and it did, and I can confirm the root fs is mounted RW.  I must have had a brain-cramp somewhere, sorry for the false alarm :(
