I am having a strange problem where internet connection seems to SLOW down, but not disconnect.  At times, there seems to be a timed pattern.  Then I try and watch real close to what is going on and the problem doesn't happen.  At this point, I really don't know what is happening.  Take a look at the Quality RRD graph below.

When I check the system logs, they are usless because they are filled up with the same two entries, see below:

Any ideas why the LAN interface is going in an out of promiscuous mode ever few seconds?

      Mike

If you're using the rate package to watch traffic come and go on Status > Traffic Graphs, it does put the interface in and out of promiscuous mode like that.

Ok, so it isn't a problem, other than making the logs usless to look at?  And you are correct, I am using the Rate package.

            Correct.

I'm not sure if that is something that can be fixed in the package or not. It appears to be it's normal MO, so it just spams the logs.

The real log file might contain more useful info. From the console, you could always run a command like this:

            clog -f /var/log/system.log | grep -v promisc

And monitor that way for suspicious entries.
