On the blog post with the announcement for the Netgate Releases Public BETA of New Installer for pfSense Software, there's the following diagram:

      https://www.netgate.com/hs-fs/hubfs/installer%20diagram.png

This slightly concerns me. I have both devices with automatic licenses, and some without. HOWEVER, I intentionally run on ALL of them, the CE and not partially the Plus and partially the CE, because I want absolute uniformity in the software environment, and also because the only reason I use pfSense is the CE, so I'm not going to enter the commercial software rabit hole, even if I have a netgate appliance which would entitle me to use it.

Now here the rub. The diagram seems to imply, that if the installer detects a device's eligibility for a Plus install, that's what will automatically happen. Only if there's no such eligibility, will the user be given the choice to either purchase or stick with the CE install.

I would strongly urge to let the user INITIALLY chose which version to install, and only if the user chooses a Plus install, to check for the license and then either continue installation or allow for a purchase of such a license.

I would absolutely HATE to be forced into the Plus track by the installer. Now, maybe that's already possible and the diagram is simplified or inaccurate, but I do hope this is addressed one way or another.

      Thanks!

I wonder if setting the do not share NDI option would prevent automatic upgrades to +

        UPDATE

I checked the box and it is still offering plus upgrade. ☹️

The way the blog post reads, it applies to clean install. I suppose one could disconnect from the internet during install, or it gives one the ability to install either.

Well at least currently you can just use the offline CE installer.

From a backend view it's trivial to pass CE as an option to the net installer so if that becomes an issue it's something we can look at.
