I am having DNS issues after a recent provider (Breezeline) outage.
Service has been restored, however trying to access the internet through the Netgate SG-1100 does not work.
If I connect my laptop directly to the Ethernet port on the Internet Cable Modem, I can access the internet w/o issue.
If I execute the ipconfig /all command when so connected, I can see the IP address of the primary and secondary DNS servers.
I did a factory reset on the Netgate SG-1100, and tried leaving all setting at default. I then connected the NEtgate WAN interface to the Cable Modem Ethernet Port, and my laptop to the LAN Port on the SG-1100. I rebooted all three devices. I can access the Netgate GUI. When I do a DNS lookup via the GUI, I get "unable to resolve". I tried adding the DNS server IP's and enabling forwarding mode for the DNS resolver, and get the same result, although this does show the DNS server IP's I entered but shows "no Response" for those. If I fire up a browser and try to reach anything, I get a message saying I am not connected to the internet.
I am trying to keep this simple, And thought it prudent to ask some more knowledgeable folks before I try mucking around with other DNS setting on the Netgate. Any Suggestions? Thank You.

You don't need to enter any 'DNS servers' into pfSense for it to have a work DNS for itself and your LAN network.
You don't need to change ANY settings on the main (and other) Resolver (unbound) settings page.
And no, you don't need to enter ISP DNS info anywhere. That's something of the past.
        pfSense uses a resolver.

But, when you factory reset pfSense, and yuo said you are using a "Internet Cable Modem" so I presume : the default (after reset) WAN interfacec uses DHCP and that won't work for you.
Didn't you have to use PPPOE, and enter a user name and password so it can connect to your ISP ?

Btw : It happens, ISP can have issues, don't let that be a reason to start resetting stuff. You can't set up pfSense afterwards, as the ISP is 'out'. You can't be sure if you've setup up things correctly as the ISP might still be out, or it is on, but you are mistaken somewhere.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??
