I've been running pfSensePlus 23.09 with KEA DHCP with no issues for months until a few days ago when installed NTOPNG package. A few hours after installing kea-dhcp4 and kea-dhcp6 fail with errors below:

2024-03-21 13:47:00.914616-05:00 kea-dhcp4 59637 ERROR [kea-dhcp4.dhcp4.0x3c80c1e12000] DHCP4_INIT_FAIL failed to initialize Kea server: configuration error using file '/usr/local/etc/kea/kea-dhcp4.conf': cannot lock socket lockfile, /tmp/kea4-ctrl-socket.lock, : Resource temporarily unavailable
      2024-03-21 13:47:00.913619-05:00 kea-dhcp4 59637 ERROR [kea-dhcp4.dhcp4.0x3c80c1e12000] DHCP4_CONFIG_LOAD_FAIL configuration error using file: /usr/local/etc/kea/kea-dhcp4.conf, reason: cannot lock socket lockfile, /tmp/kea4-ctrl-socket.lock, : Resource temporarily unavailable
2024-03-21 13:47:00.912594-05:00 kea-dhcp4 59637 ERROR [kea-dhcp4.dhcp4.0x3c80c1e12000] DHCP4_PARSER_COMMIT_FAIL parser failed to commit changes: cannot lock socket lockfile, /tmp/kea4-ctrl-socket.lock, : Resource temporarily unavailable
      2024-03-21 13:47:00.912270-05:00 kea-dhcp4 59637 INFO [kea-dhcp4.dhcpsrv.0x3c80c1e12000] DHCPSRV_CFGMGR_SOCKET_TYPE_DEFAULT "dhcp-socket-type" not specified , using default socket type raw

Initial found bug 14977 mentioning the stale lock files. I deleted both kea-dhcp4 & kea-dhcp6 lock files and was able to restart both services. Shortly afterwards it it they fail again, same issue and errors. When I uninstall the NTOPNG package KEA DHCP remains running for a day with no issues. This morning I installed NTOPNG again and within a few hours KEA DHCP fails with the same error messages. Uninstalled the NTOPNG package and KEA DHCP remains running.

I have no idea what the interoperability might be between two totally disparate applications. The desired outcome would be to able able run both DHCP and NTOPNG at the same time.

I just upgraded to pfSense Plus 24.03. Thought I'd reinstall NTOPNG to check it if no longer interfere with KEA DHCP v4, sorry to report it still does. After a few hours KEA DHCP v4 stops running with the error about "cannot lock socket lockfile, /tmp/kea4-ctrl-socket.lock, : Resource temporarily unavailable". Deleting the lock file temporarily solves the issue, however in a few hours it will cease running again with the same lock message.

          Same on 2.7.2-RELEASE (amd64)

I will keep ntop disabled until I need it and see if keeping it disabled keeps kea alive.
