which update method to trust?
-
Using 23.09.1-RELEASE (amd64) on a Netgate 8200.
System/Package Manager reports all packages up to date.
pkg upgrade reports:
Installed packages to be UPGRADED:
curl: 8.5.0 -> 8.6.0 [pfSense]
nut-devel: 2023.10.07_1 -> 2024.01.03 [pfSense]
pfSense-upgrade: 1.2.1 -> 1.2.1_1 [pfSense]
unbound: 1.18.0_1 -> 1.19.1 [pfSense]
Which one do I trust? Do I ask pkg to perform the updates?

Both are 'pfSense'.
These :
are pfSense Packages, you can find them under System > Package Manager > Available Packages.
When you use the console or SSH, option 13, you can also see system or FreeEBSD packages.
Both type of packages come from the Netgate package servers.
I've upgraded these "curl", "unbound" etc several weeks ago.

Yes those base pkgs should be safe to upgrade. They will be upgraded as part of the 24.03 release when that is ready anyway though.

Thank you both very much.
