Intel i226 LAN connects at 1Gig only

Newbie question. I've got a CWWk N100/i3-N305 motherboard running pfSense. It has four 2.5gb ethernet ports. The Wan port connects at 2.5gb but the Lan is only connecting at 1gb. When I plug into my previous Asus router, they both connect at 2.5gb. This is using the very same cables. If I try to manually set the port to 2.5g, there is no connection. I would appreciate any guidance on what to check.

The i226 NICs using the igc driver can only connect using link auto negotiate. Setting a connecting device to fixed speed/duplex will result in the negotiation failing and hence no link.
If it negotiates 1G then it's likely that's what the other end is offering. I assume you tried swapping out the cables anyway? Try reassigning the LAN to one of the other igc NICs.

@stephenw10 As I mentioned above, when I swap pfSense for an ASUS router, using the same cables, the connection is 2.5gb.

Did you try what was suggested? Your ASUS might have a different instruction set that forces the issue.

Yup if you didn't try swapping out the cables that's the first thing to try. Just because it worked with a different NIC in a different router does not guaranty it will work with that. Though obviously you would expect it to!

Although I don't understand why the same cable would give 2.5gb in the Asus and 1gb in pfSense, I did swap the cable. I've never heard of cables selectively prefering one device over another. -

Did you try reassigning LAN to one of the other igc NICs?
One other thing you should test is just connecting two of the igc NICs together and make sure they link at 2.5G as expected.
