How to set static ip on DHCP device with no control access?
-
Hello,
I have a device with DHCP, receiving something like 192.168.1.124 from the pfSense router's LAN DHCP server.
I asked the device's support how to make a static IP on it, and they say they have no support for static IPs and I have to manage the device's IP from my network.
So, I'm curious how I can set the device's IP to a static IP without much device control?I would have liked to SSH into it or use some admin settings, but there's no admin settings for static IP management and ssh admin@192.168.1.124 output says: ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.124 port 22: Connection refused.

You can add a static mapping for the device.
This possibly requires ISC DHCP.Go to Status > DHCP leases and pick its MAC address. Then go to the DHCP server settings and add a static mapping for it with the desired IP. Note that the IP has to be outside of the DHCP server pool range.
However, this might have no impact on the SSH.
Did you try the SSH access from inside the same subnet as the device? Maybe it blocks access from outside. -
Yup use a static mapping: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/services/dhcp/ipv4.html#static-mappings
