Sometime late december I upgraded Pfsense on my Netgate 1100, after this update I was unable to access the management GUI. The login page would function nomaly, but after a successful login i would receive a "502 Bad Gateway, nginx" error. other than the management page being inaccessible, all other router functions seemed to operate without issues for months. Before the update I had no issues with my device.

I typically access my 1100 remotely using Tailscale VPN and didn't have access to my physical box until today. Even when trying to login from the local network i would still receive this same error.

I powered off and on my 1100 but the router didn't not seem to fully reboot. The management GUI was entirely inaccessible and unresponsive to pings (i did make sure to be on the same subnet as the gateway). I then tried to access the 1100 through the serial port with Putty. Im able to connect, but the console just repeats:

      "FreeBSD/arm64 (Amnesiac) (ttyu0)
      -sh: /etc/rc.initial: not found"

I'm unsure how to proceed. Is my 1100 bricked? I dont know of any way to reset the device without access to the Console or GUI.

@capras12 it will likely be faster to reinstall. https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/reinstall-pfsense.html (Free ticket, and they are usually fast)

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Thanks for the response, will I still be able to do this reinstall with the console issue I'm having? I'm assuming it will automatically boot of the USB when detected, is that the case?

@capras12 yup, read through the instructions but there’s not much besides creating the usb stick.
