pfSense CE - is my version really up to date?

Looking at the downloads page, the Latest Stable Version of Community Edition is 2.7.2.
When I look at my installation, it says it is up to date, then also says that I am on 2.7.0, even though I have selected the 2.7.2 branch.
I'm confused. Is my version really up to date?

No
The update system gets it wrong sometmes.-
Try going to the Update Settings tab and change / save that then look on the dashboard page to see if it offers you the update.

The was a certificate issue which caused this, see fix described here https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-7-1.html#troubleshooting, which is to apply certctl rehash

download v2.7.2 and install that over your current install, it should keep the configuration https://www.pfsense.org/download/

Yup almost certainly requires:
certctl rehashto see the update. -

Ran certctl rehash from the console, and got the system to update to 2.7.2; when it rebooted, I ran into an error "can't find '/etc/host' /boot/entropy". I ended up having to download and reinstall the pfSense from USB. $%#$%#$ Once I applied backups and a few restarts later, it's up and running now on 2.7.2. Thanks.
It's frustrating to hit that issue and have to reinstall pfSense, but what #$%%$# me off is that "up to date" status message next to the version info updated message with today's date in the Web configurator! I don't follow forums closely or look at the pfSense site often these days, but I DO check the status regularly in my dashboard to see if any updates are needed.
Do the folks at Netgate send notifications to (registered) pfSense Plus users when they run old versions? For example, if I go out and buy, say, a Netgate 2100 or 4200, will they email me or alert me in the Web configurator to tell me when there is a new update to be applied????

That's a bug. It's fixed in current versions though. It now correct reports an error there if it cannot reach the pkg repos.
