How to choose which alert to receive

Hello, I'm trying to understand how to choose which event triggers an alert.
I find where to configure receiving alerts (System -> Advanced -> Notification), but not where to modify what triggers the alert.
For example, I have 2 pfsense in production, one alerts when one of the internet connections is disconnected and the other doesn't...
Help me pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeee :)

@SteveITS Hello, Yes i think, in gateway edit, I have :
- Gateway is enable
- "Gateway Monitoring" and "Gateway Action" boxes are not checked (so, it is not "disable", so it is monitored... )
- all others options are by default

@kokos Is it using an SMTP server it can reach, while the Internet is disconnected?

There's no good way to select what actually triggers an alert. It's a feature that's often asked for but unfortunately is pretty low priority.

Thank you for the clear response.
It's a shame it's not a priority, given the criticality of its use.
I see messages requesting it from over 10 years ago. It's no longer a matter of priority; it's a choice :)
