I saw this post here (https://www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-software-embraces-change-a-strategic-migration-to-the-linux-kernel) and was wondering if this was a april fools day joke or are you serous? If you are serious, this is great news. thanks.

@techpro2004 It was an April Fools joke.
Wondering why you would want to go to Linux? Is it for hardware support? Wifi support? Just curious.

Fortunately for all of us, it was just a joke. Thank god.

Could someone educate me why TNSR is based on Linux, what makes Linux more suitable for TNSR compared to pfsense & BSD and are there any desires to unify the platforms at some point in the future?

TNSR was built on Linux because VPP already existed there. Porting it to FreeBSD would have required significant effort at the time. Though it was discussed.

Looks like VPP might happen on FreeBSD though, which is really interesting: https://ipng.ch/s/articles/2024/02/10/vpp-freebsd-1.html
