I have come to understand that downloading packages can lead to issues if the package release is newer than the pfsense release. Correct?

I just flashed 23.09.1 onto an SG-1100, but 24.3 is out as well. So I figured I could get into trouble if I download packages that have been optimized for 24.3.

However, when I carefully check the package's version number (incl. dependency files) and I see that all version numbers are still the same as I have on another netgate running 23.09.1, I suppose it will be fine. Is this correct?

Traditionally that has always been an issue but since 23.09 the upgrade system no longer switches the upgrade branch automatically, the user must opt into the new branch.

So just make sure you have not set that and the upgrade branch is still set to 23.09.1 in System > Update > Settngs before you install pkgs.
