Kea Server won't start after adding static lease
-
I've been having an ongoing issue with my NetGate 1100:
Every time I add a static DHCP lease to my list, the Kea DHCP server stops, and won't restart. Various items are logged, but believe they all stem from this one:
ERROR [kea-dhcp4.dhcp4.0x1643de212000] DHCP4_INIT_FAIL failed to initialize Kea server: configuration error using file '/usr/local/etc/kea/kea-dhcp4.conf': cannot lock socket lockfile, /tmp/kea4-ctrl-socket.lock, : Resource temporarily unavailable
A restart of the device seems to fix the issue, but only until I add another static lease.
Please excuse me for a moment: I need to inform everyone that the Internet is about to go down...

@aaronouthier Not sure why anyone thinks kea is ready for prime time yet.. The blog entry goes over how its preview, the release notes go over how its preview..
Unless all you need is hand out IP without any other stuff just use isc at this time.

Interesting! I don’t know anything about this blog and stuff. All I know is after an updating PFsense a while back, I got a message in the UI that ISC is being phased out, and made it sound like Kea was the new preferred server. If that’s not the case, it’s news to me.
In any event, thank you! I’ll switch back to ISC for now.

https://www.netgate.com/blog/netgate-adds-kea-dhcp-to-pfsense-plus-software-version-23.09-1
Basic functionality is present in version 23.09, but the Kea implementation lacks the following DHCP server features:
Local DNS Resolver/Forwarder Registration for static and dynamic DHCP clients
Remote DNS server registration
DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation
High Availability Failover
Lease statistics/graphs
Custom DHCP optionshttps://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/23-09.html#rn-23-09-kea
Same warning about preview in the 2.7.1 release notes
