I currnently run a pf sense on a mini pc with a celeron N3160 its a https://www.jetwaycomputer.com/JBC313U591.html with intel NICs

in the UK it seams most of our internet is connected via PPPoE and at the moment i have an 80 meg DSL so the hardware is fine i know about the BSD and PPPoE single thread issue having read this

Re: Netgate hardware that can cope with gigabit PPPoE

i was wondering if something like this might be sutible when 1gig becomse avalibel cityfibre are currently diggin up the roads all around me so should be soon :-)

Jetway JBU03 Fanless J6412 Mini PC
https://www.jetwaycomputer.com/FBU03.html which seems to have a better pass mark than the cpu in the Netgate 6100 which has an Atom(TM) CPU C3558 the Board i was looking at has a Celeron J6412

I want to stick with PfSense rather than use the fitzbox that comes with my ISP (Zen) and if i upgrade my pfsense hardware beforehand i want to future proof it for gig via PPPoE

Because of the restriction in PPPoE in FreeBSD/pfSense the important number is the single thread rating.

When I have tested it locally the C3558 will pass 1Gbps over PPPoE. But that is locally. Unfortunately I'm stuck in g.fast land for the foreseeable future. I can only dream of cityfibre. Grr.

@kstrider I have a Netgate 5100 (Atom C3558) on Zen gigabit fibre (Openreach). It can handle the full 1Gbps PPPoE.
