      Hi,
I am not power user of pfsense. I updated the software to version 23.09-1 and I was not able to connect to the serial port.

I use a PC with putty set at com3, 115200N81. I was not able to open the port. ... no response.

Beside,I need to unplug the power to netgate 5100 to be able to boot up successfully.

      any suggestion?

Thank you to all the response.

      Regards

      Pat

Was the serial console working before the upgrade?

Do you see the BIOS output at the console?

What error do you see when you try to connect to it?

        Steve

@stephenw10 Hi, It was working before the upgrade. I upgraded the software from previous 2 versions down up to the current version. During upgrade progress, the unit did not reboot and hung up. I had to disconnect the power and reconnected it again. I rarely reboot the system.

My laptop has a USB 3 port, I connected the USB cable originally from netgate. The device manager indicated as com3, opened putty, com3 N81 115200. The window beep, the session did not open. I tried again with from com1 to 6. same result.

I tried again via a USB C hub with USB3 port, same result, reboot laptop and tried same result.

I was not able to open a session to view.

no, i cannot see the BIOS output.

          Best Regards

          Pat

Hmm, the firmware upgrade would not have affected the output from the BIOS on the serial console. But that was working before the upgrade?

Are you able to try connecting from a different client?

Is the 5100 powering on correctly? What LEDs do you see?

              Hi Stephenw10,
Thank you for your advise. Yes , it was working before the upgrade. I do not really use the serial console. I only test it before the upgrade or I need to boot the unit from BIOS to select using the SSD instead the internal ROM.

The 5100 boots up normally without any intervention.

I installed the latest version of putty on my laptop ๐Ÿ˜ฐ and tried again. It is back online now.๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜

              Thank you

Hmm, well I have no explanation for that. Glad it worked out though. ๐Ÿ‘
