Do you see any other errors in the system log?

Or errors in the pfBlocker update logs?

That's a very generic place to see an error like that but it implies some missing config.

        Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for prompt respond...
There are nothing in system logs...
Looks like pfBlocker starts update and never finish it. Many hours later I rebooted mine 3100 and there are still persistent locks:
[24.03-RELEASE][admin@pfSense.home.arpa]/root: ps ax | grep 'pkg'
          15308 - R 4:01.45 /usr/local/bin/php -f /etc/rc.packages pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG DEINSTALL
          69161 - I 0:00.01 /bin/sh /usr/local/sbin/pfSense-upgrade -y -l /cf/conf/pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG.txt -p /tmp/pfS
          70466 - I 0:00.00 /usr/bin/lockf -s -t 5 /tmp/pfSense-upgrade.lock /usr/local/libexec/pfSense-upgrade -y -l /cf/conf/pkg
          70645 - I 0:00.02 /bin/sh /usr/local/libexec/pfSense-upgrade -y -l /cf/conf/pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG.txt -p /tmp/
          92879 - I 0:00.00 /bin/sh /usr/local/libexec/pfSense-upgrade -y -l /cf/conf/pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG.txt -p /tmp/
          93015 - I 0:00.00 /bin/sh /usr/local/libexec/pfSense-upgrade -y -l /cf/conf/pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG.txt -p /tmp/
          93124 - IC 0:00.01 tee -a /cf/conf/pkg_log_pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG.txt
          93207 - I 0:00.01 /usr/local/sbin/pkg-static -o EVENT_PIPE=/tmp/pfSense-upgrade.sock upgrade -f pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG
          93411 - S 0:01.82 /usr/local/sbin/pkg-static -o EVENT_PIPE=/tmp/pfSense-upgrade.sock upgrade -f pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG
          60306 0 S+ 0:00.01 grep pkg

I think it's pfBlocker issue. I will poke around, but affraid I need reset to factory settings and reconfigure from scratch.
          Thanks.

Hmm, those are all actual pkg processes not pfBlocker itself. I would expect those to finish eventually.

It's trying to upgrade pfBlocker there. Did you initiate that after the reboot?

              Yes.
Actually it's like this for couple days:

              94390 - IN 0:00.00 /bin/sh /etc/rc.update_pkg_metadata
              85486 0 R+ 0:00.00 grep pkg

                    Hmm, that's odd.

I would try to remove then reinstall pfBlocker. You may need to kill those pkg processes to allow that.

                      Hello
I have the same error and problem on my PFSense 6100 Max.
I have upgrade to the las version of pfBlockerNG 3.2.0_12.
I have reboot, re-install PFSense, try to delete the package nothing to do....
The package pfBlockerNG 3.2.0_12 is always present.
How we can reinitalize the PFSense and in the same time delete all the packages forcefully?
                      Thanks
                      Best regards
                      Laurent

You are still seeing the pkg upgrade process running?

no, there is no upgrade process running
worse, I am haven't access to the package manager ... Always work in progress to display the packages
                          0eac782c-1442-4d4f-9a77-4b00b99614f7-image.png

Is it possible to format all the PFSense to reset all without packages?
I think it's the better solution to fix the problem today...

I mean as shown above there are no stuck pkg processes in system activity or output of ps aux?

You can remove pkgs from the CLI.

You can reset the config if required.

Yes but on my PFSense, impossible to delete the package.
The processus start but block at one moment and not continue....
                              I don't understand why...

Try removing it from the command line with:
                                pkg remove pfSense-pkg-pfBlockerNG
See what errors you get. If any.

Do you also use the pfSense development version (snapshot) of pfSense, as @Hirugoba ?
                                    Or the current 24.03 ?

Didn't even know that pfBlockerNG 3.2.0_12 was out and available.
Or is _12 for the dev version only ?

My 24.03 (non dev !) says : your' up to date, and the version is :

Eventually I did "factory reset" and after some poking around "/etc/inc/util.inc" error happened couple times more.

Reinstalled appliance from image (24.03) and re-configured it manually (I mean not from back-up).

AFAIK that would only ever have been available in 24.08-dev. If you somehow selected the dev branch and then didn't upgrade to 24.08 you might have seen the update the pfBlocker. If you then tried to upgrade to that without first upgrading to 24.08 it would probably have failed.
If you are running ZFS I would roll back to the last good BE and upgrade again to 24.03 (if needed).

For my part, I never use a dev version, only a stable.
So for the probability of the selection of dev branch is very very low...
