SG-1100 eMMC Lifetime UP
-
I have been running my SG-1100 for just under 3 years now. But with a number of threads talking abut eMMC lifetime expiring, I ran the mmc-utils package. My 1100 reports 100-110% used! It is still working fine but do not want to wait until it fails. My assumptions are 1) eMMC can't be replaced on 1100. 2) if I don't want a perfectly good appliance to just get too old, I need to get a appliance with SSD. 3) The closest SSD appliance to the 1100 would be the 2100.
Have I missed the boat anywhere? If I purchase a 2100, will the 1100's config need to be converted?
Thanks for any help and insight. -
@jerryf72 Yes but Netgate will convert it for you if you open a free ticket. (the 1100 uses VLANs on its switch). They will probably ask if you actually use the OPT port or if they can ignore that.
In a pinch, I've seen posts about using a USB stick as storage on an 1100.

mmc-utils package.
I have an SG1100. What ist the mmc-utils package.? I cant find it under available packages.

@michmoor it’s a FreeBSD package not a pfSense package:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/disk-lifetime.html#emmcEdit: available in Plus presumably since non-Netgate devices are unlikely to use eMMC storage.

@SteveITS thanks appreciate it !

Just for reference some early 1100s used an eMMC chip that the utillity cannot read ware data from so you might see that.
Those show as:
Extended CSD rev 1.6 (MMC 4.5)
