Hello, Im new to netgate and pfsense. Im looking to get into high end networking on a small scale for my home. I only have a 60mbit download and 15mbit upload wan speed (60/15).

Does the Netgate SG-1100 have a suitably fast CPU to perform traffic shaping with fq-codel to eliminate bufferbloat (a HUGE issue on my network) at my wan speeds?

Also, what is the maximum throughput this device can handle with traffic shaping? I may get the opportunity to upgrade to a larger throughput someday, so future-proofing is a consideration.

@MaxRackstraw We’ve mostly set up 2100s which is the same CPU but a second interface (the 1100 has a three port switch). Its peak is around 600-700 Mbps native. Haven’t had any problems with shaping at any speed. I would not be worried about it at 60/15.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Okay seems good. Would this be the recommended device for me given the use case I stated above? Or would there be a better alternative?

@MaxRackstraw To better answer your throughput question the 1100 should top out around 400-500 Mbps I’d expect. If you don’t need packages that use lots of disk writes or RAM then it’s a fine little router.
