Installing new network card for WAN

I have a quad port Intel network card with ports assigned to WAN, LAN, and two OPT interfaces. I'm thinking to install an additional single-port network card to use for WAN. I'm wondering what is necessary to reassign the WAN interface to the new card. Is it as simple as swapping the WAN cable to the new card and reassigning the WAN interface with all firewall rules and the like intact, or is there more to it than that? I'm hoping it's a simple thing to do but need to know if anything else needs done.

You pretty much summed it up.
Install the card.
With some luck, the GUI still works, and you continue from there - if not, console access, and assign interfaces.
"Luck" because you could have, for example, em0, em1 em2 and em3 on your quad NIC card, and em4 on your new NIC, if they both have the same NIC-chips.
On of course ^^ pfSense will find the new config the other way around : em0 is now the new NIC, and em1, 2 3 and 4 will be your quand NIC.
Something like that - all thanks to some hidden random hardware detection mechanism.
And because everything has been shuffled around, the console access is needed. -
I can handle the interface shuffling via console. I am hoping not to have to reconfigure everything for all the interfaces again. I'll know for sure once I have an available round tuit so I can get it done.
