First, thanks guys/gals for all of your hard work on pfSense.  What an awesome firewall.

I'm running 2.0 ALPHA, ALPHA, 10/25/09 and have had 2 strange things happen.

The first is that if I try to connect to anything via FTP, my router craps on itself and reboots…  I know it's an Alpha, so if I'm desperate, I'll re-format, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Also, I'm having the same problem as someone else that changes to the interface cause it to go boom as well.

Please let me know if you need any more information from me to help out.  I'll read up on the interface change crash, and will continue to keep my system up to date to see if it get's fixed.

Again, thanks in advance for all of your hard work...

I've also seen this happen but haven't gathered enough data to make a useful report anywhere. Since my only 2.0 instances are purely for testing and tinkering, it hasn't been a priority.

          Hi,

It's been observed this one since somewhere June builds and still exists unfortunately. It might be FBSD issue but who knows. This is easily reproducible, just toggling pasv/port several times on your ftp client, the box will be caught by panic easy and which causes complete death of the box, you have to manually reset or power cycle to recover.

          cheers,

            hello gangs,

still exists and really hurts my operation…now any single ftp action, such as just trying
to connect a server, causes the box kabooom. 8.0 based 20091114-0618. Good thing is
now the box stays at debugger and allows me to type any debugger commands. Interstingly,
I've set up auto reboot when the box caught by panic(# ddb script kdb.enter.panic=reset
with no dump dev), I thought it'd work permanently but not, it only worked once.

            now what?

            cheers,

We have already obtained a bunch of panic info and traffic captures and forwarded them to the person who is working on the FTP proxy. We're just waiting on a fix from him.

                Hi,

Thanks for heads up…finally  :P  I kinda was concerned about that it's not been a priority
                mentioned previously.

Now sit tight, shut mouth, just be patient, wait, and will never ask WHEN  ;D

                cheers,

Great!! A solution (or cause of) my crashes.. After upgrading to the latest snapshots I couldn't figure out why my box seemingly crashed randomly.

Just today I put 2 and 2 together and realized that it crashed whenever I tried to download something from HP's support site. I now see why.

In 2.0 is there a way to disable the FTP proxy like there used to be? My pfSense box is crashing once or twice a day because of this issue.

No because it's in kernel. Make sure you're on the latest snapshot, some changes have gone in and I haven't had a chance to test it since the last changes.

                        Hooray!! Fixed!!

I was running a snapshot from Nov 16th, so it's obviously been fixed between then and now.. Cool!
