Connecting Netgate 8300 to a Cisco Nexus9000 C93108TC-FX3P
-
While I'm awaiting this new 8300, I'm planning to use a 40G QSFP+ to 4 x 10G SFP+ Passive DAC cable to link up the two. Has anyone done this before? I never ordered the modules etc for the Netgate 8300 and was hoping I could use this cable to connect the Nexus to the (4) 10G SFP+ cage ports of the NetGate 8300 pfsense

yes, you can use a 40g qsfp+ to 4 x 10g sfp+ passive dac cable to connect your nexus switch to the netgate 8300. the 8300 has four 10g sfp+ ports, so the breakout cable should work as long as your nexus switch supports qsfp+ to sfp+ breakouts.
however, you should ensure a few things before proceeding:
compatibility: make sure that both the nexus switch and the netgate 8300 support the specific passive dac cable you're planning to use. compatibility can vary between different manufacturers and models, so it's always good to double-check the specifications or test it if possible.
cable length: passive dac cables work well for short distances (typically up to 7 meters). if your setup requires longer runs, you might need to consider active dac cables or fiber with appropriate transceivers.
module requirements: while the netgate 8300 doesn’t require specific modules for its sfp+ ports, ensure that the dac cable you’re using is compatible with the nexus switch's qsfp+ port. some switches may require specific brands or types of cables to function correctly.
if everything checks out, this setup should work fine for linking your nexus switch to the netgate 8300 with pfsense. it's a good way to maximize the use of the 10g sfp+ ports on the 8300. good luck with your setup!

@jackhicks121 I've got this connected and the 40G QSFP+ to 4 x 10G SFP+ Passive DAC cable works like a charm.
Thanks
