Found the SG-1000 in a funny state a couple of weeks ago with no response for UI web page or connection to internet, LAN/WAN ports showed no light. Rebooting didn't help.

Booting it up while monitoring via console session showed error when trying to boot.
Requested a new image for it from Netgate. During install, console showed I/O error when trying to write to eMMC. It seems that eMMC storage is fried.

I was thinking of replacing the appliance with SG-1100 but it was released in Jan 2019, i.e. more than 5.5 years ago! I'm wondering if it is a good idea to buy it now and then realize that Netgate replaced it with new appliance in an year or so!

Has anyone tried installing pfsense on SG-1000 or SG-1100 by adding an SD card to it?

      Options in order of preference:

      • use SG-1000 if possible

      • go back to virtual pfsense

      • order a Unify Express Cloud Gateway

      Suggestions are welcome.

You can run the SG-1000 from a uSD card directly. If you ask the TAC guys they can get you a specific image that runs directly without requiring the installer. However it cannot run any pfSense version after 22.05 so coming up to 2 years without updates.
