Hi I upgraded to 24.03 yesterday and switched over to Kea DHCP, in the hope it would prove more stable than it was in 23.09

I have a standalone firewall on a flat IPv4 network 192.168.0.0/22 and have been running ISC DHCP with no problems

It is serving IP addresses and dnsmasq seems to work, but in the DHCP server log I can see that the DHCP server is restarting every few seconds.

Here is a screenshot of the log showing only "start" events. Here are the last 2000 log entries

Is this normal, or is there a resolution. Should I perhaps switch back to ISC DHCP?

@thetravellor I’m not aware of any changes to Kea between those versions. 24.08 will have a lot.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Thanks, Ill switch back to ISC DHCP, 2000 log entries in a few minutes with the process failing continuously is not acceptable.

This might be due to the "Service Watchdog" plugin, if you are using that.

Since the process names are different between the old and the new dhcp server, Kea also has two processes (one for IPv4 and one for IPv6 vs the old that combines those).

If this is the case, just re-configure the "Service Watchdog" plugin (aka remove the old, add the new).

Hmm, the logs seem to show that it's the dhcpleases process. However that does not (yet) work with Kea. And it should not shutdown the DHCP server, it restarts the DNS server.

However I would try disabling resolving dhcp leases in Unbound if it's still enabled. It should be disabled automatically when Kea is enabled.
