@JonathanLee The amount time from release to release.

I can't recall a time I have had to reboot pfsense other than updating it.

I have had to shut it down because of extended power outages before, but I don't recall ever just having to reboot it for anything other than a update

        74 Days 22 Hours 39 Minutes 21 Seconds

When I moved it from sitting on my desk to my new rack, Also during my office remodel I think at one point had to shut everything down redoing how everything was powered by ups, I had got a new ups and redid what was powered by each one, and redid the cabling into the rack

        this.jpg

But other than stuff like that, it runs from release to release.

I don't have a screenshot of this, but somewhere around 230 days was the longest uptime I had with pfSense.

I'm currently at 144 days, which I think is the longest so far.

@JonathanLee My record is 388 days as far as I recall, but that was because it was a setup where I opted to skip a release. Otherwise its usually the days between releases as I have UPS support on my setups.
                That means its currently at:

                5f680240-2bab-41f5-99a3-9c9c15f6af80-image.png

EDIT: But mind you - this one has been a little more troublesome with the memory leak in the BSNMP module that Netgate opted not to patch and instead have us wait for 24.08 (or 25.xx since 24.08 is heavily delayed/likely maybe even skipped).

@JonathanLee ….But I have customers that quite often choose to skip releases, and i have several times passed 1000 days of uptime in those installations :-)

Not a good idea, but now I am curious if the boxes at my old company have been updated.. Pretty sure it was when 2.4.5 came out in March of 2020, I sure wasn't going to upgrade them remotely with nobody there to be my smart hands if something went sideways. Figured would update them when offices opened back up.. But then got let go from that company.. So I doubt anyone has updated them after I left.. And the other guy that would of, got let go as well. They let our whole dept go.. So they are prob still on 2.4.4p3

If they have not been updated, or switch out for something else they are well over 1000 days by now. Something like 1600+ days..

Next time I talk to my buddy that still works there will have to ask him, he works in a different dept but he would be able to check on them ;)

I'm on the same track as @johnpoz updates and power outages. Currently on about 62 days for my pfSense and FreeBSD desktops. Longest I recall was between 250 and 365 days.
Now that the whole house generator is working I may be able to skip power outages :)

Nice!! I would really like to have that setup, or battery for my solar so could run when grid is down, etc. But battery didn't make a lot of sense cost wise when I put in solar. And while I would love a generator, our outages are so far between and when they do happen they normally only a few minutes.. Longest I can recall is 3 hours when they notified before hand of maint.. And even then it was more like an hour..

Years ago we had an extended outage for a few days, and lost some food in the frig, etc.. But they sent us a check to pay for that even, just had to list out what you lost.

So generator is on my list of next time I have a lot of blow money and looking for something to spend it on - hahaha.. Like that happens ever - hehehe

With my current ups, I can survive 20-30 minutes before I start shutting stuff down.. And biggest draw is pc and monitors and nas - if I shut those down and just leave the network gear up.. Prob get more like an hour or so.

@johnpoz I think the longest has been about 10-14 days. Ice storm taking lots out. Portable gas generator (Honda EM5000 over 20 yrs old) to power essentials like heat, well, fridge and coffee maker that would run 8-12 hrs on a tank. Wife decided "we need whole house so I don't have to try and start that". Propane fired, nominally 1 wk at half load (but typical load is less than half).
Initial cost is a lot, but if I need it 3 times before I die, it's worth it.

@mer and your ready for the zombie apocalypse when it comes ;)

Problem is if your the only one with power, you will attract the crazies and zombies most likely ;) hehehe

I would love to have one.. Are you out in the boonies? No natural gas? My cousin has a natural gas one that is pretty slick, but with propane guess you don't have to worry about the gas lines not working.. And sure you could scrounge up lots of tanks if/when society collapses hehehe

@johnpoz NH not really the boonies but no natural gas in the area so choices are propane oil or electric for heat which drives choices. Propane just need to keep an eye on levels and call for a fill out of schedule.
I've seen propane fired portables so you can use the 20lb tanks from a grill.

Zombies don't bother me, neighbors on the other hand...
