recover from bad package install
-
I attempted an update of pfblockerng-devel, and the post-install has been stuck for 20 min with 100% CPU usage. Worse, I can no longer invoke the main GUI. I am in a crunch an need to recover from this. Any advice for recovery in this case?

I added a workaround to the thread here while this is fixed: https://forum.netgate.com/post/1185688

@Gertjan Yes, same issue but different focus. I was in urgent need for help and the post in the pfBlocker forum seemed to buried. I was lucky to get a response from @BBcan177 anyway.
Here I was inquiring for a more general solution on how to deal with a hosed package install. This has happened to me only once before in 15 years of using pfSense (I think the last time it was snort) but perhaps this is effect of CE getting less love than the plus edition.
Perhaps there is no generic way of recovering from a package install and the best way of avoiding the issue is not to upgrade on the first day of availability. I learned my lesson, and am incredibly thankful to @BBcan177 to get me back on track for my work from home day.
Cheers

@stephenw10 Thank you. I am on track enough that the system is working. I will hold for the update rather than messing further with the system.
